Where Has Common Courtesy Gone?

It never ceases to amaze me how people in todays society are so uncaring of others around them. They walk around in a “me” bubble and act as if the world is theirs and theirs alone.

Driving: When my dad taught me to drive one of the first things he lectured me on was being aware of the other motorist around me. Being a courteous drive makes the roads a safer place for all. I see virtually no driver courtesy on the roads today. Only rude, road rage warriors. Is it so difficult to look in your mirror occasional and move over when you see you are holding up traffic, or turn on a blinker, or stop before blocking a drive where folks are trying to get out. Yes, there are times I am guilty of being a road rage driver also and those times are when the above happens and people show absolutely no consideration for anyone around them.

Crosswalks: When I enter a crosswalk and there are cars having to wait for me to cross I don’t dilly dally, take my time, stop in the middle of the lane to chat with a friend, or pull out my cell phone and carry on a conversation, or stand there digging in my purse for my keys. I smile and trot across the drive being considerate of the people who have stopped to let me cross. In my world that’s just plan common courtesy.

Store Aisles: Please for goodness sake move your cart and your self to one side of the aisle. Do not place your cart in the center of the aisle and carry on a conversation for 20 minutes with someone you know oblivious to others around you. And do not glare at me and look at me as if I have snakes in my hair when I say “excuse me” and try to get around you after I’ve already stood there 5 minutes waiting on you to finish your conversation.

Store Clerks: Wake up people. You have a job. You get a pay check. Earn it! Don’t act like I’m an imposition to you because you have to wait on me. And for Christ sake a smile wouldn’t kill you. And please, put down your cell phone long enough to take care of the customers standing there staring at the sign over head that says, “Customer Service is our business.” yeah, right. Do you not understand the concept that without customers you would have no job! I’ve seen 80 year old ladies on a walker move faster than some of these so called cashiers and customer service reps.

Long lost are the simple words like, thank you, I’m sorry, please, have a nice day, yes mam, no sir and can I help you. Seems they’ve been replaced with words like, yeah, huh, what do you want, or a blank stare as if they have landed on some alien planet somewhere clueless.

Well, I’ve run out of steam so I guess I’ll get off my soap box for today. It just irks me how people seem to have lost any desire to be kind, courteous, and helpful to other human beings.

What’s New with Me?

It’s hard to believe yet another year has passed. Where does the time go? Why only yesterday I was thirty, right? I can dream can’t I?

As most of you know, my daughter, son-in-law, and grandbabies left at the end of September for a four-year stay in Germany. Yes, my heart is broken and yes, I have taken the time to throw myself a pity party, although quietly when I’m alone. I’m not one much for crying around others, doesn’t mean I don’t cry, I just prefer to let my pillow soak up my tears. I have to remind myself daily that God puts us where we need to be for His own purpose. I pray daily for the strength to face the loneliness that some days threatens to swallow me whole without them here. God has His purpose and I will endure.

I’ve traded my weekends of kisses and hugs, kickball, and playing make believe for weekends with my girlfriends. Of course, nothing can compare with, or take the place of, baby kisses and “I love you’s” that simply melt your heart. Okay, let me wipe the tears and I’ll continue.

Yes, I will be going to Germany. My plans are for May. I simply don’t believe I can withstand waiting any longer than that. I still can’t visualize little ole me in big ole Germany, but if that’s where God has chosen to plant my family then I will go. I suppose, I should have been more careful when I prayed for a little adventure in my life. Like my mom used to say, “Be careful what you pray for, you just might get it.” Actually, I’m looking forward to stepping out of my comfort zone and experiencing something foreign and new. I feel certain I will have stories galore when I return, so be forewarned.

January is also the month the writing course that I mentor for begins. I’m looking forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones. Between starting back to work next week, mentoring my writing group, and participating in my newest charity organization, Strong Southern Women, I should have no problems keeping myself occupied.

I would like to end my post today to ask for your prayers. Not only for myself, but also for all those who are hurting in so many ways in our country today. There are those who are losing their homes and jobs at such an astounding rate that it boggles the mind. There are those who are ailing and sick without the financial ability to get the medical treatment they so desperately need. If I were to win the lottery today, I’d most likely be broke before months end, because I could not help but hand it out hand over fist to help those less fortunate. However, since I do not see that happening I can offer up my prayers and ask that others do the same. Although, there may be days when it seems God is far away, do not despair, for He is still there. It is we who must seek Him on our own behalf and on the behalf of others. Prayer is still a powerful tool regardless of what some may believe. I will not let those who wish to dismiss God as simply an old fashion value, lead me into their abyss.

I Live with an Alien.

Today, I would like to offer a little insight for those who have women in their life’s who seem to have suddenly metamorphosed into a completely different human being than the one they once knew. Well, before you go running to the divorce lawyer, or mark your dear old mom up as a loony old woman, or disown your sister because you think she’s lost her mind, let me give you a little peek into why she may seem to be less than that loving and accommodating individual you’ve always known.

If she’s approaching the age of 50 menopause or what is often referred to, and rightly so, as the change of life may be the culprit.
The simple truth is that for women going through menopause it’s much like stepping back in time and reliving those teenage hormonal years with a myriad of added complications.

Here is a glimpse of what the women in your life, whose disposition you no longer recognize, might be experiencing. For those women who are approaching menopause, or for those who have women in their life’s approaching menopause, be forewarned. If you have ever raised a teenager, some of these symptoms might sound familiar.

Let’s start with, combative, bitter, angry, rebellious, cynical, frustrated, emotional, temperamental, and cantankerous. Are you shaking your head in agreement? Do you recognize these symptoms in any of the women in your life? Now, add to that insomnia, decreased libido, urinary inconsistencies, anxiety, itching, dry skin, weight gain, night sweats, hot flashes, depression, forgetfulness, and body aches. Then there’s hair loss in places women don’t want to lose hair and hair growth in places were women should never have hair. It’s not any one symptom but an accumulation of a range of these symptoms all happening in conjunction that transforms your once loving, peaceful spouse, wife, mother, sister into what appears to be some form of alien being.

Oh, and let’s not forget, this is coupled with the already stressful lifestyle women struggle with daily. Things like taking care of an elderly parent, nurturing a relationship with children and grandchildren, keeping the spouse happy, the home running smoothly, all the while trying to stay on top of the other numerous demands on their time from the tons of other obligations that they can’t keep from saying yes to because it’s somehow expected of them.

Let me paint you a picture of a typical day in the life of a woman going through menopause.

You get up in the morning to go to work after getting a night of fitful if any sleep in damp sweat soaked PJ’s. You climb out of bed only to discover that when your feet hit the floor, your knees and joints feel as if someone has beaten them with a hammer during the night. You push through the pain to rush to the bathroom before your bladder gives way knowing you may just not make it and knowing if you don’t you don’t have time to clean up the accident, or you’ll be late for work.

You grab the pants you wore two days ago only to find that suddenly they no longer reach around your bloated belly. You continue to rush through your many morning chores while cursing because you can’t find any object in the house quite long enough to reach that annoying and continuous itch in the middle of your back, and you’ve already scratched her legs until they look like you and the cat had a fight.

It’s 30 degrees outside, the heater is set on 70, because the rest of your family is cold, yet you feel like someone dipped you in hot molten lava and your clothes are sticking to you like you’ve been playing basketball for an hour under the blazing sun. You then somehow manage to make it through the day glad you weren’t fired because you nearly knocked the boss over fighting to get to the bathroom so you wouldn’t pee on the new carpet he had laid.

You arrive home only to realize that you forgot to go by the grocery store, pick up your dad’s medicine, and drop off the flyers for the organizational lunch you signed up for a month ago. You have maybe half an hour before your husband arrives expecting super on the table. Luckily, you put on a crock-pot of something yummy for supper, but when you go to check you realize you forgot to plug the crock-pot in. You frantically search through the cabinets hoping to find something more appetizing than crackers and cheese that can be cooked in less than fifteen minutes. Your husband arrives home none too happy to discover ham sandwiches for supper but willing to let it slid if you can manage to fit in a little “alone time.”

Inadvertently, you roll your eyes, which hurts his feelings, and you wonder why any man would want to be intimate with an oversized, sweaty, itchy, achy, wrinkled, hippo all the while crossing your fingers that you don’t pee on yourself for the tenth time today. You wonder how many Tylenol you’ll have to down to give you enough relief from your achy joints to be able to comply with his wishes. Need I go on, or are you getting the picture?

Some of you are probably thinking, well aren’t there hormone pills and tons of other medications women can take to help offset some of these diabolical symptoms. Of course there are. However, your woman then has to weigh the options of risking cancer, drug dependency, and suffering from the various other side effects that come with taking such medications. Frustrating decisions to say the least.

Menopause is real it’s not some made-up excuse so that women can go ballistic. You now have a heads up as to why the women in your life have transformed into a disgruntled ogre instead of the loving, easy going, joyful, good-natured individual you once knew. Remember her emotional and physical status is beyond her control and that in itself is exasperating. So what can you do? There are no easy answers, but you can try to be a tad more patient, appreciative, understanding, and sympathetic.

You can avoid some of the pitfalls and frustration by educating yourself about menopause.
Communicate, let her know you don’t think she’s crazy and your shoulder is there for her. Be certain to assure her you believe her when she says she can’t help how she acts.
Don’t take everything she does and says as a personal attack.
If she needs more alone time or time with her girlfriends or wants to start a new adventure, be supportive.
Offer ideas for doing things together and laugh with her and not at her. Sometimes laughter can be the best remedy for both of you.

With that thought in mind, here are a few things to make you smile.

Male menopause is a lot more fun than female menopause. With female menopause, you gain weight and get hot flashes. Male menopause - you get to date young girls and drive motorcycles. - Author Unknown

You sell your home heating system at a yard sale.
Your husband jokes that instead of buying a wood stove, he is using you to heat the family room this winter. Rather than just saying you are not amused, you shoot him.
You have to write post-it notes with your kids' and grandkids names and birth dates on them.
Your husband chirps, "Hi honey, I'm home." And you reply, "Well, if it isn't Ozzie friggin' Nelson."
The Phenobarbital dose that wiped out the Heaven's Gate Cult gives you four hours of decent rest.
You have to change your underwear after every sneeze.
Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes, and you're barefoot.
Going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.

Thanksgiving 2022

"Winston, come into the dining room, it's time to eat," Julia yelled to her husband.

"In a minute, honey, it's a tie score," he answered.

Actually Winston wasn't very interested in the traditional holiday football game between Detroit and Washington .

Ever since the government passed the Civility in Sports Statute of 2017, outlawing tackle football for its "unseemly violence" and the "bad example it sets for the rest of the world", Winston was far less of a football fan than he used to be. Two-hand touch wasn't nearly as exciting.

Yet it wasn't the game that Winston was uninterested in.
It was more the thought of eating another Tofu Turkey.
Even though it was the best type of Veggie Meat available after the government revised the American Anti-Obesity Act of 2018, adding fowl to the list of federally-forbidden foods, (which already included potatoes, cranberry sauce, and mincemeat pie), it wasn't anything like real turkey.

And ever since the government officially changed the name of "Thanksgiving Day" to "A National Day of Atonement" in 2020, to officially acknowledge the Pilgrims' historically brutal treatment of Native Americans, the holiday had lost a lot of its luster.

Eating in the dining room was also a bit daunting.
The unearthly gleam of government-mandated fluorescent light bulbs made the Tofu Turkey look even weirder than it actually was, and the room was always cold.

Ever since Congress passed the Power Conservation Act of 2016, mandating all thermostats - which were monitored and controlled by the electric company - be kept at 68 degrees, every room on the north side of the house was barely tolerable throughout the entire winter.

Still, it was good getting together with family. Or at least most of the family. Winston missed his mother, who passed on in October, when she had used up her legal allotment of life-saving medical treatment.
He had had many heated conversations with the Regional Health Consortium, spawned when the private insurance market finally went bankrupt, and everyone was forced into the government health care program.
And though he demanded she be kept on her treatment, it was a futile effort.

"The RHC's resources are limited", explained the government bureaucrat Winston spoke with on the phone.

"Your mother received all the benefits to which she was entitled.---- I'm sorry for your loss."

Ed couldn't make it either. He had forgotten to plug in his electric car last night, the only kind available after the Anti-Fossil Fuel Bill of 2021 outlawed the use of the combustion engines – for everyone but government officials.

The fifty mile round trip was about ten miles too far, and Ed didn't want to spend a frosty night on the road somewhere between here and there.

Thankfully, Winston's brother, John, and his wife were flying in.
Winston made sure that the dining room chairs had extra cushions for the occasion.

No one complained more than John about the pain of sitting down so soon after the government-mandated cavity searches at airports, which severely aggravated his hemorrhoids.

Ever since a terrorist successfully smuggled a cavity bomb onto a jetliner, the TSA told Americans the added "inconvenience" was an "absolute necessity" in order to stay "one step ahead of the terrorists."

Winston's own body had grown accustomed to such probing ever since the government expanded their scope to just about anywhere a crowd gathered, via Anti-Profiling Act of 2022.

That law made it a crime to single out any group or individual for "unequal scrutiny," even when probable cause was involved.
Thus, cavity searches at malls, train stations, bus depots, etc., etc., had become almost routine. Almost.

The Supreme Court is reviewing the statute, but most Americans expect a Court composed of six progressives and three conservatives to leave the law intact.

"A living Constitution is extremely flexible", said the Court's eldest member, Elena Kagan.

" Europe has had laws like this one for years..---- We should learn from their example", she added.

Winston's thoughts turned to his own children.
He got along fairly well with his 12-year-old daughter, Brittany, mostly because she ignored him.

Winston had long ago surrendered to the idea that she could text anyone at any time, even during Atonement Dinner.
Their only real confrontation had occurred when he limited her to 50,000 texts a month, explaining that was all he could afford.
She whined for a week, but got over it.

His 16-year-old son, Jason, was another matter altogether.
Perhaps it was the constant bombarding he got in public school that global warming, the bird flu, terrorism, or any of a number of other calamities were "just around the corner", but Jason had developed a kind of nihilistic attitude that ranged between simmering surliness and outright hostility.

It didn't help that Jason had reported his father to the police for smoking a cigarette in the house, an act made criminal by the Smoking Control Statute of 2018, which outlawed smoking anywhere within 500 feet of another human being.

Winston paid the $5,000 fine, which might have been considered excessive before the American dollar became virtually worthless as a result of QE13.

The latest round of quantitative easing the federal government initiated was, once again, to "spur economic growth."

This time, they promised to push unemployment below its years-long rate of 18%, but Winston was not particularly hopeful.
Yet the family had a lot for which to be thankful, Winston thought, before remembering it was a Day of Atonement.

At least, he had his memories.
He felt a twinge of sadness when he realized his children would never know what life was like in the Good Old Days, long before government promises to make life "fair for everyone" realized their full potential.

Winston, like so many of his fellow Americans, never realized how much things could change when they didn't happen all at once, but little by little, so people could get used to them.

He wondered what might have happened if the public had stood up while there was still time, maybe back around 2011 or 2012, when all the real nonsense began.

"Maybe we wouldn't be where we are today if we'd just said 'enough is enough' when we had the chance," he thought.
Maybe so, Winston. Maybe so.

Speak Up–Let Your Voice be Heard

Folks, will this be the year that we RE-TAKE AMERICA & CANADA

Andy Rooney says:
I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I don't agree with Darwin , but I didn't go out and hire a lawyer when my high school teacher taught his Theory of Evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer before a football game. So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there reading the entire Book of Acts. They're just talking to a God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the players on the field and the fans going home from the game.
But it's a Christian prayer, some will argue.
Yes, and this is the United States of America and Canada , countries founded on Christian principles. According to our very own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect – Somebody chanting Hare Krishna?
If I went to a football game in Jerusalem , I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.
If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad , I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.
If I went to a ping pong match in China , I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended. It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome ....
But what about the atheists? Is another argument. What about them? Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand. Call your lawyer!
Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do. I don't think a short prayer at a football game is going to shake the world's foundations.
Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our parents and grandparents taught us to pray before eating, to pray before we go to sleep. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.
God, help us. And if that last sentence offends you, well, just sue me.
The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we tell that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard that the vast majority doesn't care what they want.
It is time that the majority rules! It's time we tell them, "You don't have to pray; You don't have to say the Pledge of Allegiance; you don't have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right;
But by golly, you are no longer going to take our rights away.
We are fighting back, and we WILL WIN!"
God bless us one and all...Especially those who denounce Him, God bless America and Canada, despite all our faults, and we are still the greatest nations of all. God bless our service men that are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

Let's make 2011 the year the silent majority is heard and we put God back as the foundation of our families and institutions. And our military forces come home from all the wars. Keep looking up.

A Solution

This was shared with me from a friend and I felt the need to share it with you.

How to solve the Seniors Retirement problem and the growing Prison Inmate problem with one change....

Here's the way it should be:
Let's put the seniors in jail and the criminals in nursing homes.
This would correct two things in one motion:

Seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.

They would receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical Treatment, wheel chairs, etc.

They would receive money instead of having to pay it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they would be helped instantly... If they fell or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes.

All meals and snacks would be brought to them.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight/fitness room, spiritual counseling, a pool and education... and free admission to in-house concerts by nationally recognized entertainment artists.

Simple clothing - i.e.. Shoes, slippers, pj's - and legal aid would be free, upon request.

There would be private, secure rooms provided for all with an outdoor exercise yard complete with gardens.

Each senior would have a P.C., T.V., phone and radio in their room at no cost.

They would receive daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear any complaints and the ACLU would fight for their rights and protection.

The guards would have a code of conduct to be strictly adhered to, with attorneys available, at no charge to protect the seniors and their families from abuse or neglect.

As for the criminals:
They would receive cold food.
They would be left alone and unsupervised.
They would receive showers once a week.
They would live in tiny rooms, for which they would have to pay $5,000 per month.
They would have no hope of ever getting out.

"Sounds like justice to me!"

Germany Bound

Well, it is official. The kids are in Germany. It has taken me a few days to come to grips with the reality of it all. It was an extremely difficult day saying goodbye and watching the plane ascend into the heavens. I allowed myself the day to indulge in a self-pity party. Every toy left behind, every piece of clothing, brought a fresh batch of tears. The quietness now is almost deafening.

What I will miss the most is their hugs and kisses, their child-like wonder, their honesty, and their imagination. I think I smiled and laughed more in the past year than I have in my entire life. I am thankful to God and my daughter and son-in-law for the opportunity to spend the past year bounding with my grand children. They have renewed my zest for life and adventure.

I am now eagerly anticipating the opportunity to visit a foreign country, something I’ve never really had a desire to do before. Children have a way of making you see things in a different light. Their fearlessness and innocence have a way of seeping in and giving life new purpose, new meaning.

I will trust in God that He has placed them where He wants them to be. I will trust that He will give me the strength, fortitude and positive attitude to forge forward each day with a renewed spirit for this fragile, wonderful, adventure called life. I will trust in Him to watch over them and keep them safe.

An Easy Fix

From a senior citizen around 80 years of age seen in an article in the St. Petersburg , Fl. Times.

The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

The Fix

Sounds like a plan to me.

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.. Instead

of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto

Industry fixed.

They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing

Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

 P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

Age is Wisdom

Old People are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem. Old People remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment.? They know the words and believe in them.
It's the Old People who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country.
Old people believe the best things in live or still free
Old people understand the wisdom of spare the rod spoil the child
Old people understand that one night of enjoyment can possible ruin the rest of your life
Old people understand that life is not always fair and when you’ve been dealt an unjust hand you can’t just quit
Old people understand that wealth, happiness, and success is not just measured by the materialistic things you own
Old people understand the value of good manners, respect, and common sense
Old people are not useless burdens but a source of knowledge, gained from life experiences that can not be found in books
Old people understand you must be willing to be accountable for your own actions and be ready to face the consequences

Old people are not a drain on society to be push aside by the younger generation as out of touch, but a source of wisdom that could save them a lot of trials if they would only listen to their advice and accept that they know what they are talking about

Answering Machine Trivia

Petrichor

The smell of rain on dry ground

Petrichor (pronounced /ˈpɛtrɨkər/; from Greek petros "stone" + ichor the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology) is the name of the scent of rain on dry earth.

The term was coined in 1964 by two Australian researchers, Bear and Thomas, for an article in the journal Nature.^[1] In the article, the authors describe how the smell derives from an oil exuded by certain plants during dry periods, whereupon it is absorbed by clay-based soils and rocks. During rain, the oil is released into the air along with another compound, geosmin, producing the distinctive scent. In a follow-up paper, Bear and Thomas (1965) showed that the oil retards seed germination and early plant growth.^[

Geosmin, which literally translates to "earth smell", is an organic compound with a distinct earthy flavour and aroma, and is responsible for the earthy taste of beets and a contributor to the strong scent that occurs in the air when rain falls after a dry spell of weather (petrichor) or when soil is disturbed.^[1] The human nose is extremely sensitive to geosmin and is able to detect it at concentrations as low as 5 parts per trillion^{[citation needed]}.

Geosmin is produced by several classes of microbes, including cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and actinobacteria (especiallystreptomyces), and released when these microbes die. Communities whose water supply depends on surface water can periodically experience episodes of unpleasant-tasting water when a sharp drop in the population of these bacteria releases geosmin into the local water supply. Under acidic conditions, geosmin decomposes into odorless substances.^[2]

Geosmin is also responsible for the muddy smell in bottom-dwelling freshwater fish such as carp and catfish. Cyanobacteria produce geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol, which concentrate in the skin and dark muscle tissue. Geosmin breaks down in acid conditions; hence vinegar and other acidic ingredients in fish recipes help reduce the muddy flavor.

Unconditional Love

Is there someone in your life that you can truly say you love unconditionally? Do you have someone in your life whom you know loves you unconditionally?

First, we must consider the meaning of unconditional love. According to Wikipedia, unconditional love is a term that means to love someone regardless of the loved one's qualities or actions. Love with no limitations.

So, if we know someone loves us unconditionally, meaning they will love us no matter what we do, what we say, or how we act, does this give us the right to treat them anyway we wish? Can we treat them with disrespect, have no consideration for their feelings, and be brutally honest without any filtration? If it is truly unconditional love then the answer would be yes.

The first true example of unconditional love that springs to mind is that of a parent for a child. Regardless of what that child does, the parent still loves them. How many weeping mothers have you seen or heard about whose sons or daughters have committed unspeakable crimes like murder and rape, and yet they still vow their undying love for that child. Those who have never experienced unconditional love may gawk and stammer, “How could you love an individual who would commit such horrible acts?” The answer, unconditional love.

It would seem reasonable then that we should be more thankful and considerate to those who we know love us unconditionally. Should we not honor that unconditional love with respect, thoughtfulness, and consideration instead of using that unconditional love to vent our own frustrations, anger, and everyday stress? It would seem so; however, that is seldom how it works out. If you really look around you or stop and examine your own relationships, you may find that the exact opposite is true. Those whom love us unconditionally and whom we love unconditionally are usually the ones we treat the worst. We don’t stop before we speak, we don’t think of their feelings first, we simply react any way we choose because we know that no matter how big the argument, how hurtful the actions, tomorrow they will still love us. With two simple words, “I’m sorry”, all is again right with the universe. Often times, we don’t even bother to say those words, we just assume those who love us unconditionally know we are sorry.

Then there are those in our lives that we love conditionally and that love us conditionally. If we do the right things, say the right things, act the right way, we will be rewarded with their love and approval. However, if we disappoint them in any one of these areas then their love vanishes or becomes diminished in some capacity. We deal with this kind of love on an everyday basis. At work, at school, at social gatherings, even family gatherings. Everyone plays nice and everyone goes home happy. Furthermore, if we make a specifically inconvenient request of someone with whom we have conditional love vs. someone with whom we share unconditional love, which one would be the most likely to help us out? Then again, would we even bother to ask the one with whom we experience conditional love, because we would not want to inconvenience them for fear their love may diminish in some way.

God showed the world the ultimate act of love when he gave us His only Son to die for our sins. Could anyone of us as a parent do the same? It is doubtful. However, many of us could and would give our own lives for that of our child or someone whom we love unconditionally. In truth, unconditional love is probably the most sought after kind of love among human beings. To have someone care more about your happiness than his or her own is truly a gift. Just as God sacrificed His Son as a gift for our eternal life, we should be willing to love unconditionally. Furthermore, we should be more diligent in appreciating those who willingly love us unconditionally.

When was the last time you told someone whom you know loves you unconditional that you love them? When was the last time you did something for no reason for someone who loves you unconditionally? Now think, when was the last time you did something meaningful for someone who loves you conditionally?

On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years."
The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?"

So God agreed......

On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."

The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?"

Shampoo alert!

Start your day out a laugh!

As I was conditioning my hair in the shower this morning, I took time to read my shampoo bottle. I am in shock! The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my entire body says "for extra volume and body"! Seriously, why have I not noticed this before? Now I understand why I am so "full-figured"!

Tomorrow I am going to start using "Dawn" dish soap. It says right on the label "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove."

Don’t Worry

Telling a parent “Don’t Worry” is a nice gesture but wasted breath. If you’ve ever been a parent you know it is true. It isn’t until you become a parent that you truly appreciate your own parents.

Is there an imaginary cutoff period when offspring become accountable for their own actions? Is there some wonderful moment when parents can become detached spectators in the lives of their children and shrug, "It's their life," and feel nothing?

When I was in my twenties, I stood in a hospital corridor waiting for doctors to put stitches in my daughters hand and I asked,
'When do you stop worrying?' The nurse said, 'When they get out of the accident stage.' My Parents just smiled faintly and said nothing.

When I was in my thirties, I sat on a little chair in a classroom
and listened as the teacher told me my daughter had to be put in time out. My frown made the teacher smile. As if to read my mind, she said, 'Don't worry, they all go through this stage it will pass then you can sit back, relax and enjoy them.' My Parents just smiled and said nothing.

When I was in my forties, I spent a lifetime waiting for the phone to ring, the car to come home, the front door to open. A friend said,
'They're trying to find themselves. 'Don't worry! In a few years, they'll be adults. 'They'll be off on their own. They'll be out of your hair'
My Parents just smiled and said nothing.

By the time I was 50, I was so tired of being vulnerable.
I was still worrying over my child, but now there was a new wrinkle..
Even though she was on her own I continued to anguish over her failures, be tormented by her frustrations and absorbed in her disappointments.. and there was nothing I could do about it.

My friends said that when my kids got married
I could stop worrying and lead my own life. I wanted to believe that, but I was haunted by My Parents' warm smiles and their occasional, 'You look pale. Are you all right' ?
'Call me the minute you get home'. Are you depressed about something?'

My friends said that when I became a Grandparent that I would get to enjoy the happy little voices yelling Grandma! Grandpa! And I do!
But now I find that I worry just as much about the little ones as my big ones. How does one cope with all this Worry?

Can it be that parents are sentenced to a lifetime of worry?
Is concern for one another handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of human frailties and the fears of the unknown? Is concern a curse or is it a virtue that elevates us to the highest form of earthly creation?

One time my daughter became quite irritable, saying to me,
'Where were you? I've been calling for 3 days, and no one answered.
I was worried.' I smiled a warm smile.

New Pledge of Allegiance

In response to the Pledge of Allegiance And The Lord's Prayer not being allowed in most public schools anymore because the word 'God' is mentioned... A kid in Arizona wrote the attached Pledge.

New School prayer:

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong...

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

Mean Moms

Someday when my children are old enough to
understand the logic that motivates a parent,
I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me:
I loved you enough to ask where you were going,
with whom, and what time you would be home.
I loved you enough to be silent and let you
discover that your new best friend was a creep.
I loved you enough to stand over you for
two hours while you cleaned your room,
a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger,
disappointment, and tears in my eyes.. Children
must learn that their parents aren't perfect..
I loved you enough to let you assume the
responsibility for your actions even when the
penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart..
But most of all, I loved you enough to say
NO when I knew you would hate me for it.
Those were the most difficult battles of all..
I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too.
And someday when your children are old enough to
understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mom mean?

I know mine was.
We had the meanest mother in the whole world!
While other kids ate candy for breakfast,
we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast.

When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch,
we had to eat sandwiches.

And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was
different from what other kids had, too.
Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times.
You'd think we were convicts in a prison.

She had to know who our friends were
and what we were doing with them.
She insisted that if we said we
would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.
We were ashamed to admit it,
but she had the nerve to break
the Child Labor Laws by making us work.

We had to wash the dishes, make the beds,
learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry,
empty the trash and all sorts of cruel
jobs.
I think she would lie awake at night
thinking of more things for us to do.
She always insisted on us telling the truth,
the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

By the time we were teenagers,
she could read our minds
and had eyes in the back of her head.
Then, life was really tough!
Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk
the horn when they drove up
They had to come up to the door
so she could meet them.

While everyone else could date
when they were 12 or 13,
we had to wait until we were 16.
Because of our mother we missed out
on lots of things other kids experienced.
None of us have ever
been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's
property or ever arrested for any crime.
It was all her fault.

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults.
We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was.
I think that is what's wrong with the world today.
It just doesn't have enough mean moms!

The weather out side is nice, well except for a few treacherous storms here and there, and it's once again time for F2K to begin. For those of you who are unfamiliar with F2K, it is a free online writing course for aspiring writers. The course is a seven week course sponsored by Writers' Village University and is staffed by writers who volunteer as Mentors. It is a great place to learn, get motivated, and network with other writers.

At last count, we had like 400 students enrolled for the April session of F2K. It looks as if this is going to be an awesome session with lots of opportunities to make new friends who aspire to write.

The course starts this Wednesday; so as a mentor, I will be spending the next few days roaming around the online halls meeting the new students and helping everyone get oriented to the site.

I always look forward to the F2K sessions because it allows me the opportunity to spend time working with others who have a passion for writing. Writing is a time consuming art, but for those who aspire to write it is time well spent.

Before I go I thought I'd share a little writing humor with you.

A few moments later, as she ascended into heaven, she saw rows of writers, chained to their desks in a steaming sweatshop. As they worked, they, too, were whipped with thorny lashes.

"Wait a minute," said the writer. "This is just as bad as hell!"

"Oh no, it's not," replied an unseen voice. "Here, your work gets published."

Here is the list of 2010 'Stella Awards'! For those unfamiliar with these awards, they are named after 81-year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued the McDonald's in New Mexico , where she purchased coffee. You remember, she took the lid off the coffee and put it between her knees while she was driving. Who would ever think one could get burned doing that, right? That's right; these are awards for the most outlandish lawsuits and verdicts in the U.S. You know, the kinds of cases that make you scratch your head. So keep your head scratcher handy.

*SEVENTH PLACE*
Kathleen Robertson of Austin, Texas was awarded $80,000 by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The store owners were understandably surprised by the verdict, considering the running toddler was her own son

* SIXTH PLACE *
Carl Truman, 19, of Los Angeles , California won $74,000 plus medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps.

* FIFTH PLACE *
Terrence Dickson, of Bristol , Pennsylvania , who was leaving a house he had just burglarized by way of the garage. Unfortunately for Dickson, the automatic garage door opener malfunctioned and he could not get the garage door to open. Worse, he couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the garage to the house locked when Dickson pulled it shut. Forced to sit for eight, count 'em, EIGHT days and survive on a case of Pepsi and a large bag of dry dog food, he sued the homeowner's insurance company claiming undue mental Anguish. Amazingly, the jury said the insurance company must pay Dickson $500,000 for his anguish. We should all have this kind of anguish Keep scratching. There are more....

*FOURTH PLACE*
Jerry Williams, of Little Rock, Arkansas, garnered 4th Place in the Stella's when he was awarded $14,500 plus medical expenses after being bitten on the butt by his next door neighbor's beagle - even though the beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. Williams did not get as much as he asked for because the jury believed the beagle might have been provoked at the time of the butt bite because Williams had climbed over the fence into the yard and repeatedly shot the dog with a pellet gun.

Pick a new spot to scratch, you're getting a bald spot..

* THIRD PLACE *
Amber Carson of Lancaster, Pennsylvania because a jury ordered a Philadelphia restaurant to pay her $113,500 after she slipped on a spilled soft drink and broke her tailbone. The reason the soft drink was on the floor: Ms. Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument. What ever happened to people being responsible for their own actions?

Only two more so ease up on the scratching...

*SECOND PLACE*
Kara Walton, of Claymont , Delaware sued the owner of a night club in a nearby city because she fell from the bathroom window to the floor, knocking out her two front teeth. Even though Ms. Walton was trying to sneak through the ladies room window to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge, the jury said the night club had to pay her $12,000....oh, yeah, plus dental expenses. Go figure.

* FIRST PLACE *

This year's runaway First Place Stella Award winner was: Mrs. Merv Grazinski, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who purchased new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, from an OU football game, having driven on to the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's seat to go to the back of the Winnebago to make herself a sandwich.

Not surprisingly, the motor home left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Also not surprisingly, Mrs. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not putting in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually leave the driver's seat while the cruise control was set.

The Oklahoma jury awarded her, are you sitting down?
$1,750,000 PLUS a new motor home. Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home.

There recently was an article in theSt. Petersburg , Fl. Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the "PatrioticRetirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

HANDBOOK 2011

Health:
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants..
4. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
5. Make time to pray.
6. Play more games
7. Read more books than you did in 2010 .
8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day
9. Sleep for 7 hours.
10. Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:
11. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
12. Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
13. Don't over do. Keep your limits.
14. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
15. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
16. Dream more while you are awake
17. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need..

Out With Old In With The New

Gosh, where did 2010 go? It flew by so fast I feel like I'm spinning in circles from the aftermath. I embrace the beginning of 2011 with a new frame of mind and a new attitude. The question is how long will it last. LOL Like most resolutions after the first few weeks we fall back into our normal rut and there goes our best laid plans.

I have a lot of goals for 2011. Although it's questionable how much I will fully accomplish. Getting organized and using my time wisely has certainly got to be at the top of the list. January is always a busy time for me. Both my online writing class, where I mentor other writers at F2K, and my normal teaching job starts this month. Then of course, there's the grand babies. Boy am I going to miss them when they leave. I'm wondering what kind of withdrawal symptoms I'll face. Will I need rehab to get over the addiction?

It will be time to pick Jack up from school soon and not a lot gets done after that, so I best run and accomplishwhat I can. Still another filing cabinet drawer to sift through, copies of my teaching manuals to make, wash to be done, and oh yeah, what are we going to have for supper? :D

Christmas was an awesome event this year. I had forgotten how exciting it is to have little ones on Christmas morning. The joy and excitement on their little faces sure fill your heart to over flowing. Of course, Santa brought them what they wanted and a whole lot more than they expected.

It's hard to believe the kids have been here almost 7 months now. The time has flown as I'm sure the next 6 months will also. It's going to be difficult when it's time for them to leave but I thank God for the blessing of allowing us this time to bond.

I hope everyone of you also had a grand Christmas and that the blessings of the season follow you throughout the next year. As for New Years resolutions I have a long list. How many of them will come to pass is questionable.

I wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Years!

A female mate was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road, and the condition was soon fatal.

Her male mate brought her food and attended her with love and compassion.

We Take So Much For Granted

Desks

Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock , did something not to be forgotten. On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.

When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.

'Ms. Cothren, where're our desks?'

She replied, 'You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk.'

They thought, 'Well, maybe it's our grades.'

'No,' she said.

'Maybe it's our behavior.'

She told them, 'No, it's not even your behavior.'

And so, they came and went, the first period, second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.

By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms.Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.

The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, 'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you.'

At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.

Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall. By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.

Martha said, 'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it.'

By the way, this is a true story.

I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked hard since I was 18.   Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years.   I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes."   Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help.   But if they bought Mc Mansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of   Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois.

I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but thinks that Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I #@*# sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next?   Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"?   And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan.   And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois , where the " Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years.   Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm #@*% tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

Family Woes

Things have been crazy at Granny’s house. In one week, I think we ended up at the ER or walk-in clinic like 6 times. Both kids had ear infections in both ears, both had near pneumonia, Maddy and Mel had pink eye, and then when they start getting better Granny gets a bad sinus infection/head cold. Finally, we are all feeling better.

I'm So Far Behind

Well it's been a while since I have posted. I have so many irons in the fire it's a wonder I haven't burnt myself. I am taking every opportunity allowed to spend as much time with my family and grand kids as possible, which has meant less time on the PC. My weekends are pretty much booked for the next year.

At the moment I am spending much of my day in my online writing group F2K, as we have just cranked up a new session. I have 71 students signed up just for my room, so that means a lot of reading and responding.

When I'm not doing that I'm busy as bee over on Peoplestring earning some extra cash watching, video's emailing, and socializing. Feel free to come join me and be my friend, it's free.

When I'm not doing that I'm running to the gym, viewing pics and video's of the kids, and working on my manuals for next term for my LIR classes.

Life is shorten than we think, so live like there is no tomorrow. Most of all have fun and enjoy those around you. Sometimes I believe we take life to seriously.

Family Blessing

Hi everyone, I hope that todays post finds you all health and happy. The last two weeks or so I have been helping my dad through cataract surgery. As most of you may know he is 85 and lives next door to me. I love him dearly and feel blessed to have been able to have such a close relationship with him.

The blessing, however, has been two fold. Although I am glad to have him near me and can be of some support to him for all that he has done for me in my life, it has been difficult. To watch a man that once was so vibrant, who was my tree of strength through so much of my life, slowly dwindle before my eyes into a man who has become as dependent on me, as I was on him when I was child, is heartbreaking.

I pray daily for God to continue to bless him and to give me the strength and courage to be there for him.

Super Bowl XLIII, Saints or Colts? Who will you be pulling for?

I like both teams so I was undecided for a while, however, I think I will be pulling for the Saints. The Colts have been in the Super twice, and since this is the Saints first trip I'm going to give them my support.

It should be an interesting game with some hard hitting in your face football. For a list of the history of who played who in what super bowl you can go here.

Hello everyone. I hope you are having an awesome week. I just got off my weekly webinar, checked my PayPal account, and I'm pumped and excited. Being from the "old school" I have always been a bit leery of the actuality that you could sit at your computer, in the comfort of your home, in your PJ's, with a cup of coffee and make money. Granny has been burnt a few times over the years and so I've become a bit cautious, which unfortunately in this day and time we have to be, not only in cyberspace but in the real world as well. There are indeed a lot of scams and a hoard of folks roaming about who will gladly take advantage of you.

With that said, what I am discovering is that, although there are scam artist who prey on our vulnerabilities, there are also those who scream scam, scam, scam, when in fact, it's not a scam at all. In actuality they shout scam because they failed to succeed, not because the opportunity is truly a scam, but because they sat back on their laurels rubbing their hands together waiting to get rich. Then instead of admitting this to themselves or others they just run around cyberspace screaming scam.

There are some truly honest and good opportunities to make extra cash working online in social marketing. I know because I'm doing it! However, like any JOB it takes a little effort on your part. So, the next time you hear scam, or dismiss an opportunity because of something someone said, take a moment and consider the person. Is the opportunity really a scam or did the person just not put forth the effort to make the opportunity profitable for them and thereby they feel they were scammed and they want you to think it too.

Well, that's my tidbit of advice for all you wonderful folks today. May you be all you can in 2010 and may all your dreams come true.

F2K Starts Tomorrow

Well it looks like it's going to be a busy and interesting January. Tomorrow starts another session of the 7 week free writing course where I am a mentor. I will also begin teaching my LIR classes this month. Lesson plans to prepare for both not to mention the numerous training webinar's I have scheduled for my network marketing venture. If keeping your mind active keeps Alzheimer at bay then I guess I'm safe for now.

I'm excited to start back with my writing class and of course I love my job teaching the Learning In Retirement Group. My need to get organized is more important now than ever. Therefore, my new years resolution is to come up with a daily plan of action and stick to it, as much as possible anyway.

Well it's almost midnight and my eyes are getting tired so I will bid you all a good night. I wish you much success, happiness, and laughter in the year ahead.

Oh, and I got a new Wii Fitness for Christmas so I can try to squeeze in a little exercise to keep the cobwebs cleared out of the old brain, while hopefully giving the old saggy bottom a lift as well.

A New Year Begins

Hoping everyone had a safe and happy new year. My weekend was spent socializing with family and friends. The weekend is almost over and a new week begins. The first week of my new year will begin with a new session of my course that I mentor for WVU. My writing has taken a back seat for the past several months and I anxiously look forward to getting back in touch with all my writer friends and meeting new aspiring writers who are looking to pursue their dreams.

I will also be starting back to work teaching on the 19th so I will be meeting new students and reconnecting with old friends as well. I hope that God will provide me with a renewed spirit to accomplish my goals of helping as many people as I can in the coming year achieve their goals and dreams.

My challenge to you is to vow to try at least one thing new this year. Fear is only fear if you allow it to be. So face your fears head on and do that one thing you have always wanted to try.

May 2010 be full of all you desire and wish for.

Getting Ready For The New Year

Good morning. Well, I am back home from my extended stay in California with the grand babies. What a wonderful time I had. It amazes me how quickly the little ones grow. It's like watching a flower bloom in spring. One day they are crawling and it seems like the next they are walking.

Maddy will soon be 9 months old and is standing, pulling up, and almost walking. Little Jack isn't so little any more and is talking in full sentences. He is also a tribute to the tag "terrible two's". LOL He is such a smart and awesome little boy.

If things go according to plan my daughter and the kids will be moving back to Alabama around March or April for a year, while daddy goes on a year's tour, which means grandma will be getting to see a lot more of them. So I am anticipating a grand 2010!

I am staying busy as a bug with my new online business and in January F2K (my writing class) will be starting up again and I will also be returning to work teaching. So I will be running full steam ahead trying to out run old age. I figure if I stay busy enough perhaps it can't catch me.

I hope each one of you had an awesome and wonderful Christmas and that the New Year will prove to be awesome for you as well
